How long should a general scholarship essay be?

   It depends on what the topic and instructions are. Different scholarships ask for different lengths. Some might even ask you to incorporate your answers to certain questions/guidelines in your essay.

   Short essays are usually 250 words. Most essays are 500 words (similar to college essays). Longer essays are 600 to 1000 words. But don’t write more than 1,000 words unless the instructions specifically tell you to write more than 1,000 words OR you are entering a research paper scholarship competition.

   Don’t forget to double space your essay so your reader will have an easier time reading your essay.
