Why wouldn’t a white person qualify for a scholarship if he attends an all black college (I think they’re called “historically black colleges”)? Aren’t a handful of white people attending an all black college considered minorities in that college? If you answer this question, you need to know the true definition of minority.

No, I’m not a racist. This is a legitimate question. I think I should post this question in the education category but I’ll post it some where else as well.

I am a english translating student in B.A and after a year i will graduate.I really like linguistic and i want to continue it in M.A.Is there any university that gives scholarship?(for research or question that they ask and then give scholarship and grant).

I’m a sophomore in high school and i’d like to start thinking about college now. I’d really like to go to a good college but i know my parents don’t have that kind of money. So, i’m just wondering how to get scholarships for being hispanic. Or, just scholarships in general? And what are the things usually required to get one? And also, where would i go to apply for one?

The topic is “What do you hope to accomplish after college?” and I wrote:

I want to be a teacher for children with mental illnesses or learning disabilities. People at my job always comment on how I’m a very patient person so I think I would be qualified to work with special children. The reason I want to educate is so I can reach out to young people, impact their lives and inspire them. I plan on eventually getting married and having a child. I feel destined to have a girl and name her Felicity since it stands for “happiness.” Most importantly, I want to travel to foreign places! It‘s my dream to visit Paris so I can try out my french. Also, something that is very important (and quirky) to me is that I would love to have a pet cow someday.

Could you please give me advice, maybe if you notice any grammar errors or anything that you feel could be written better. Just anything that you don’t like about it. I really appretiate it!

Hello, I am an international undergraduate student majoring in Music Performance, at the University of North Texas (under an F-1 Visa). I am trying to apply for Free Application for Federal Student Aid to apply for grants or scholarships, but by the time I’m asked if I am a US Citizen and I say no (when filling my profile)… well, it doesn’t let me to go on, I suppose. I tried many ways possible but still didn’t work.
So, do I require to be a US Citizen or permanent resident to apply for this or not? Any suggestions?

meaning historically black college

How exactly do I grab the attentions of the judges/readers of the scholarship programs? Is their a way that I can stroke them with my words?

First of all, let me just state that I didn’t need Affirmative Action to get into college. I’m Hispanic. I was born in the USA. My grandparents came to this country and pulled themselves up from nothing to give my siblings and I a chance. I graduated in the top 5% of my high school class, took AP/IB classes, got into an ivy league school, and I will graduate in May of this year. My full scholarship stems from the fact that I worked my butt off. Nothing was “handed to me.”

Likewise, my fiancee is biracial-black/native american. Raised in Arizona. Graduated just one spot below me in high school. No-she didn’t get ONE scholarship from the NAACP or the United Negro College Fund. That’s a MYTH. No-she doesn’t get a free ride in college because she’s Native American. ANOTHER MYTH. She took challenging courses just like me, also attends the same school that I do, speaks her native american language, is learning another, and is going to med school upon graduation. In the past, I’ve seen her fall asleep in classes here at college because she’s so busy with her work-study job, all of the student organizations she’s in, homework, and filling out more scholarship applications. Nothing was “spoon-fed” to her.

I’m not even going to talk about my own people, because I don’t want to be biased. And for those of you who want to be nasty and use racial slurs, spare me. I’m not Mexican or Puerto Rican.

So, with all that being said, why are you opposed to affirmative action? Please keep in mind that the ancestors of modern day black Americans were involuntarily stripped from their homelands. And when they got over here…forced to work like animals, told they were inferior, converted to Christianity from traditional African religions, stripped of their languages, etc. And for American Indians, they were minding their business as well. When Europeans arrived in the New World, they pillaged, raped, murdered. Forced people to settle on reservations, sent them off to boarding schools to eliminate language, culture, etc. In the subsequent years…well, we all know about the Civil Rights Movement and the American Indian Movement.

And yes….I know the agenda of black and the native american were different–but one thing was certain: Both groups were denied/stripped of equal opportunity to prosper and uplift their own communities.

So can any of you people form a respectable coherent argument without using racial epithets as to why you are against affirmative action?

You do realize that if colleges don’t meet their various quotas they will lose their funding, correct?

Oh, and for the record…I have witnessed super smart minority students get denied to colleges because the school wanted this basketball player or this rich kid whose parents would make great contributions to college.

So…are you just upset because the tables are turning? You say “it shouldn’t be about skin color,” but did you ever stop to consider that minority students have been denied privileges solely on the basis of their skin color? How would you feel if your race was just somewhat recently allowed to prosper?

I’ve recently return to school and am looking for scholarships to help pay the tuition. Does anyone know of any scholarship opportunities for working adults in the U.S.?
